2003 Dodge Viper SRT-10
*2003 Dodge Viper SRT-10*Dodge debuted the 3rd generation of the Dodge Viper, in 2002 for the 2003 model year- known as the SRT-10, this Viper was designed in conjunction with Dodge's Street & Racing Technology team and was the first car to carry the SRT moniker. Although this generation Viper grew in size, the weight of the chassis was down 80lbs over the previous generation and it became more rigid. The already massive V10 grew from 8.0-Liters to 8.3-Liters and produced 500hp but even given the added displacement, the weight of the engine was down nearly 200lbs. These performance increases and weight savings added up to make it much more capable and easier to drive than the previous models.When the car was new, magazines lauded the car for its increase in refinement and staggering performance. Car and Driver clocked the 0-60 in 3.9 seconds- this was over half a second faster than the original Viper and .3 seconds faster than the Viper's main competitor the Corvette Z06. The transmission is a Tremec-T56 6-Speed manual, with a satisfyingly notchy shift action and a lighter clutch than that found in the prior Vipers. Although Car and Driver was impressed by the speed of the car, they were even more shocked by the competency of the chassis and the massive amounts of mechanical grip. The SRT-10 was only the second car they tested that could best 1.0G on the skid pad-a remarkable statistic for a convertible- and the car stopped from 70mph faster than the Porsche GT2 they had recently tested which cost over $100,000 more.This 2003 Dodge Viper SRT-10 was purchased new in the Pacific Northwest and has remained in Oregon and Washington for the last 18 years.
