85 years ago, Bentley Chairman Captain Woolf Barnato placed a bet that he could beat the Calais-Mediterranée Express aka the Blue Train from Cannes to Calais and wagered that he could be back at his club in London before the train made its way across the English Channel. Barnato accomplished this impressive feat in a Bentley Speed Six and the rest is history.
Bentley is celebrating that victory with a special edition of their flagship Mulsanne. The company handed off the keys to their coachbuilding division at Mulliner who created a very limited edition run of four cars which will feature exclusive design details exclusive to the Blue Train series.
Inspired by the original Speed Six, the car will feature details such as a fluting pattern in the door panels that echo elements from the original car, special treadplate plaques, and a dashboard fascia with a beautifully crafted veneer of the original Speed Six. Most noticeable is the special front grille that features the classic square mesh design.
The first limited edition will also feature a customized hamper crafted in an interior-matching burnt oak and camel hide which will contain leather cutlery holders, Robbe & Berking silver plated cutlery, Haviland Limoges porcelain crockery, Linley crystal champagne flutes, and an Angora picnic rug woven in Scotland.
